Please consider how the character may fit into your roster . You may consider having DMG-based weapon for Constellation 1. Yelan with full constellations can qualify for main DPS. The more investment, the better returns. She becomes versatile with constellations and signature weapon, perfectly fitting the mechanic of current version: high DMG and fast pace. Constellation 1/2/3/4/6 are all valuable, providing stable bonus. Even the single boost in Hydro Infusion is worthwhile. 0 constellation will also be enough to offer off-field Hydro Infusion for DMG Bonus to allies. Yelan in flexible in team comp. Her best partner would be Kaedehara Kazuha, who can effectively fix Yelan’s weak links. In terms of ability priority, Q > E. Normal attacks may better be built after achieving full constellations.

Pros:

Yelan has fantastic off-field single target damage. She is great to use with characters who perform the normal attack action frequently and who stay on-field for prolonged periods of time to benefit from her Ascension 4 DMG buff.

Yelan is fairly flexible in terms of weapon options, there’s a lot of viable options including F2P friendly ones, such as Favonius Warbow, Slingshot and Recurve Bow. Though a limited 5* option, Elegy of End is fantastic on Yelan for reaction based teams since she can proc the passive consistently, which provides Elemental Mastery and Atk% to your entire party. Aqua Simulacra is a great option for her personal damage.

Yelan is very flexible in terms of team compositions. She can work well for Vaporize teams (although if she is not C2+, she may want to be paired with Xingqiu depending on the Pyro character who will be benefiting from Vaporize), Taser teams, Freeze teams, or just teams where you have an available slot and use a sustained on-field DPS who performs the normal attack action frequently.

Cons

Depending on multiple factors like your team, how many times you use her skill per burst, and your weapon choice, Yelan’s Energy Recharge requirement can be very high. In teams where she is not paired with Raiden or another Hydro character who can generate Hydro particles, and is using only one elemental skill per burst, she can want upwards of 200% Energy Recharge even when using Favonius Warbow. When not using Favonius Warbow, it can be closer to 250% (which is a difficult point to reach, and will hurt her personal damage if you are required to build this much).

Yelan’s Hydro application, while enough for some teams as a solo Hydro unit, can be insufficient or risky for some others (without her C2). This is noticeable when trying to use her with certain Pyro characters, for example with Hu Tao and without Kazuha. Yelan’s Hydro application at C0 is Weaker than Xingqiu’s, and it’s possible Pyro can overtake as the Aura element, making you unable to Vaporize consistently.
